Electrolysis is the oldest and only method recognised for ‘permanent’ hair removal and works on any hair type and hair colour. We use both diathermy and blend methods and are Sterex trained to Level 4 in Advanced Electrolysis. It is suitable for all areas of the face and body for both men and women, and we specialise in Transgender electrolysis. Monica is also the only County Durham registered member of the BIAE (British Institute & Association of Electrolysis) which is THE organisation maintaining the highest standard of practice for Electrolysis both in the UK and Internationally.
Electrolysis was discovered by an American ophtamologist Dr. Charles Michel in 1875. Throughout the 1900s it further developed as a method for permanent hair removal, but also as a method used to safely remove unwanted skin blemishes.
It treats each hair follicle individually with a very fine, disposable, sterile probe to permanently destroy the follicle’s ability to reproduce, thereby eradicating hair growth on completion of the course of treatment.
Short wave diathermy or thermolysis uses an alternating current at a high frequency and low voltage. This causes the water molecules around the follicle to vibrate resulting in the production of heat, stopping the blood supply to the root, which weakens and eventually destroys the hair. For successful and effective results, each individual hair requires repeated treatments.
“Advanced Electrolysis can be used to safely treat telangiectasia (facial thread veins), spider naevus, milia, blood spots and skin tags. The method is quick and comfortable, and in most cases only 1-2 treatments are needed to achieve desired results.”
